“...one of the seminal popular acts of the last 40 years. This collection documents their greatest successes without a wasted minute to speak of.”

The title sums it up. This essential career-spanning collection features an album's worth of chart-topping classic hits from the brothers Gibb - Robin, Barry and Maurice. One of the top-selling popular music acts of all time, the Bee Gees have been delivering sublime harmonies and penning and recording #1 singles since “Massachusetts” capped the U.K. charts in 1967. It's among the 20 tracks on NUMBER ONES, which was originally released in 2004 and went platinum before being taken out of print in '07. Rhino's reissue presents the international version of the album, featuring two cuts previously unavailable on the U.S. edition.
The compilation contains two GRAMMY® winning songs, “How Deep Is Your Love” and “Stayin' Alive,” both from the phenomenally successful Saturday Night Fever soundtrack (which was honored as Album of the Year). Also from that definitive sonic document of the disco era are “Jive Talkin',” “You Should Be Dancing,” “More Than A Woman” and “Night Fever.” Chronologically sequenced, NUMBER ONES opens with “Massachusetts” and other pop/rock-skewed early gems including “Words,” “I've Gotta Get A Message To You,” “I Started A Joke” and “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” their first U.S. #1 pop hit. Toward the end of the track listing, later classics include “Too Much Heaven” and “You Win Again.”
Also featured is “Man In The Middle,” a special tribute to Maurice Gibb, who passed away in 2003. The collection's two bonus tracks, not included on the original U.S. release of NUMBER ONES, are “Islands In The Stream” and the original demo version of “Immortality.”
The only group ever to write, produce and record six consecutive #1 singles, the Bee Gees are called “Britain's first family of harmony” on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's web page on their 1997 induction. Those harmonies belong to a global family of music fans, and they are celebrated on NUMBER ONES, the most comprehensive single-disc compilation of the group's best loved hits.
