Saturday Night Fever Name Change

Saturday Night Fever was not the film’s original name!

Did you know that the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever was originally supposed to be titled “Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night,” based on the New York Magazine article that inspired it? It was then shortened to “Saturday Night,” referencing the fact that main character Tony and his friends inhabited the 2001 Odyssey on Saturday nights.

After the Bee Gees submitted the soundtrack, director John Badham felt that the song “Night Fever” perfectly embodied the film’s spirit. Ultimately, this led him to change the name of the film to Saturday Night Fever! Check out a remake of some of the original Saturday Night Fever title sequence below and look out for an exciting announcement next week!
