The ‘Spirits Having Flown’ Tour Takes on Madison Square Garden

On this day in 1979, the Bee Gees played the first of their three night stop at Madison Square Garden on the Spirits Having Flown tour!

New York was just one of the 38 cities the band hit while on their eighth tour. The show itself was so elaborate that the brothers actually missed the Billboard Music Awards due to tour rehearsal (they ended up winning 11 awards that night).

During their show in Houston, the Bee Gees were joined on stage by John Travolta for “You Should Be Dancing” – and he showed off some of his steps from Saturday Night Fever! Videos from the tour can be seen in their 1979 TV special, Spirits Having Flown.
